*CES: Cutting Edge Treatment for Depression and Anxiety. In an effort to utilize the most effective and scientifically based treatment available in assisting our clients in improving their mental health, New Perspectives utilizes the neuromodulation treatment. "Cranial Electrical Stimulation" therapy.

This is a non-invasive therapy that utilizes the brains' natural micro currents to stimulate the production of Gaba, Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Epinephrine.   "CES" therapy has been well researched, has no significant short or long term negative side effects and is well documented as a safe and effective FDA approved treatment for anxiety, depression and sleep.  It is recognized by the medical and psychiatric community as a potentially useful treatment for obsessive compulsive disorders, PTSD, pain management, substance use withdrawal and relapse prevention.

"CES" has provided many individuals an alternative to psychotropic medications and has prevented the need for multiple medications.

*Dr. A. Nasrallah, M.D., Editor and Chief of Current Psychiatry recently addressed the use of neuromodulation therapy as an important paradigm shift in psychiatric treatment.  By utilizing this palm size machine and ear pads this neurobiological treatment targets the part of the brain involved in depression and anxiety.  This type of treatment reduces risks associated with exposing other organs systems to medication.

*Pharmacogenomics Testing: Taking The Guess Work Out of Medications

The availability of a wide range of psychotropic medications has been an exciting and beneficial development in the treatment field.  However, the inability to predict success of medication and the potential risk of side effects are a serious concern for most mental health professionals.  This is especially concerning when working with children, teens and young adults who are more likely to experience negative side effects to medications

We were extremely excited to discover there is currently a technology that reduces the trial and error involved in prescribing psychotropic medication.  In keeping with our mission to provide the most updated and effective treatment available, New Perspectives is currently utilizing Genesight services provided by Assurex Health.

Genesight is a pharmacogenomics technology that uses a cheek swab to uncover clinically important differences in individual genetic makeup.  Individual DNA affects how a person's body processes and metabolizes medication.  The ability to metabolize medication impacts the potential benefits as well as potential risks involved with medications.  This technology provides information regarding the most appropriate anti-depressants, neuroleptic, ADHD medication and over the counter analgesic medication, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and anxiolytics.  In addition, the test checks folic acid conversion.

While there is no guarantee that a medication selected with information from pharmacogenomics will be altogether without side effects or produce the intended benefit, the ability to identify medication that increases the likelihood of effectiveness while reducing the potential for negative side effects is one of the most exciting scientific and clinical developments in many years.
